So what better way to celebrate this great day by keeping your loved one healthy. It’s easy! Put your New Year’s resolution to good use and incorporate more protein into his or her diet. Here are a few simple ideas I’d like to share…
Anyway you say it, there are more than 100 million daily coffee drinkers in the United States. So, the next time you’re on your coffee break at the office, throw around some of these fun facts about this caffeinated (or decaffeinated) beverage!
With National Gluten Free Day taking place this week, we here at The Hiland Home would like to take a moment to talk about our gluten-free products. These products are safe, healthy alternatives for those that suffer from celiac disease or other disorders for whom the consumption of gluten is a serious problem. See which products made the gluten-free list!
Love them or loathe them, they’re here to stay. New Year’s resolutions are a staple in our culture and just about everyone I know makes them. My resolution is to add more protein to my diet. Why? Because protein is crucial to bone health and as we already know, women are more susceptible to weak and brittle bones as we age. Getting at least 25-30 grams of protein per meal is so simple, yet so important. Here’s how!
It doesn’t take long for my kids to become “bored stiff” just a few hours into their winter vacation from school. I’m expecting them to ask me for creative solutions to their boredom woes, so I’ve loaded up on ideas to keep them content. Here a just a few…
Remember when I told you to repurpose your sour cream and cottage cheese containers for Thanksgiving leftovers like turkey, stuffing and mashed potatoes? Why just heat them up when you can turn those leftovers into bite-sized deliciousness!
If your family is anything like mine, mashed potatoes are a go-to side dish when planning dinners. But let’s face it, mashed potatoes can be a bit boring. Never fear…the Dairy Diva is here! Spice up your mashed potato game with these Game Day Hail Marys. These are perfect for potluck football parties and could even become a new Thanksgiving tradition.
It’s October! And we all know what that means…sweets, sweets and more sweets around your home. Let’s face it, October is a candy-laden month and our kiddos usually don’t make the healthiest choices. However, I’ve picked up some candy-crushing tips that will help you and your kids keep the treats at bay.
Give your zombies and ghouls just what they are craving this October with The Dairy Diva’s Spooktacular Chocolate Peanut Butter Pancakes! They’re easy to make using Hiland’s Chocolate Peanut Butter Milk. So when it’s time to give your little devils a homemade breakfast on Halloween morning, don’t be afraid…just conjure up a little Hiland Halloween Spirit!
One of the things we love most about this season is bringing the warm colors of fall into our Hiland Home. If you haven’t already used all of your empty Hiland Dairy milk jugs to make Milk Jug Ghost Lanterns, we’ve got another great way to upcycle them with these Milk Jug Fabric Pumpkins!
It’s truly one of our favorite holidays here at The Hiland Home. The changing leaves. The crisp, cool air. The football parties…and the pumpkin spice EVERYTHING! We can’t think of a better way to celebrate than by enjoying a Pumpkin Spice Latte. And why not save a little money this fall by making your own latte at home instead of spending your hard-earned cash at a coffee shop!
We’ve all heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. The problem is, breakfast isn’t always on a kid’s priority list during the morning hustle and bustle of getting ready for school. Well this Microwave Coffee Cup Scramble recipe is quick, easy and actually fun! It only takes a couple of minutes to make and the kid’s tell us that watching the scramble ‘puff up’ in the microwave is ‘so cool!’
Pancakes are a breakfast favorite here at The Hiland Home. The problem is, pancakes generally don’t give us that protein boost we need to get our day going. Sure, we can have a tall glass of Hiland Dairy Milk to get the morning protein we need…but what if we get a craving for a cup of Hiland Orange Juice instead?
That’s why we have this recipe for our delicious Cottage Cheese Pancakes!
Most people have enough to worry about in the morning without having to think about what to make for breakfast. We here at The Hiland Home know the importance of getting a healthy, balanced meal in the morning and we think we’ve found just the dish to help you do it: Overnight Oatmeal.
As the mercury rises this summer, I’ve got a great recipe for some delicious cookies that are light, lemony and a perfect companion for just about any outdoor lunch or dinner. I saw this recipe for Buttery Lemon Lace Cookies and absolutely had to give them a go – I was looking for a simple, elegant and light cookie to pair with some Hiland Dairy Real Vanilla Ice Cream, and these beauties seemed perfect.
My daughter’s birthday was coming up and I needed to find an activity that would be interesting to a group of six to twelve year old girls. Here’s the challenge: I wanted to do something out of the ordinary and inexpensive … or ‘cheap’ if you prefer!
On the plus side, my daughter loves to be crafty and I encourage her to use her imagination. So, together we came up with the idea of a ‘Milk Jug Jam Party.’
Hiland Dairy milk jugs are made from recyclable plastic so that they can be reclaimed and reborn as new milk jugs (or whatever plastic thing you can think of). But if you’re feeling a bit creative, a Hiland Dairy milk jug can be repurposed and “upcycled” into a whole new thing. In this case, an attractive (literally) bird feeder to offer up snacks to your neighborhood’s feathered friends!
You know Hiland offers seasonal products to coincide with some of the most festive times of the year: Easter, Christmas and Halloween, but we were feeling one of the most beloved times of the year wasn’t getting the attention it deserved. That’s why Hiland is proud to introduce new summer seasonal products!
Ricotta cheese is an extremely versatile cheese whose manufacture dates back thousands of years. It can be beaten smooth and mixed with sweet and savory ingredients to create a variety of desserts and snacks. It is also commonly used in Italian main dishes such as lasagna, manicotti and ravioli.
Here’s a recipe that kids just love. It’s weird, squishy and it produces a tasty, nutritious breakfast treat! It also lets kids have (a bit of) control over what they eat, which can be quite empowering for a little one—especially if he or she is a picky eater.
So, on with the show…you’re about to make “baglets” – omelets in a bag!
We’ve got a baked oatmeal recipe that’s chunky, crunchy and packed with sweet-and-tangy fruit! It’s delicious, nutritious and super-easy to make. What’s more, you can make it on Sunday and simply pop it in the microwave in the morning for breakfast all week long!
When your kids get home from school, what’s the first thing they do? If you’re like most families, they head to the kitchen to start snacking. Instead of candy bars and cookies, wouldn’t it be great if they’d eat something a bit healthier? Sure…but how do you get a kid to eat healthy snacks? The answer is, make them fun! And here’s a recipe that’s both fun and easy to make.
I have a friend who loves Rolo candies. Decadent chocolate and creamy caramel? What’s not to love?
So one day, I decided to make her something as close to a Rolo as I could, but with a few changes. I used semi-sweet chocolate instead of milk chocolate. I added sea salt to the caramel and also sprinkled it on top. And, I didn’t go to the trouble of forming the candies into the small cylindrical shape of their store-bought inspiration.
But the result was, if I do say so myself, delicious! And, if you go to the trouble of making a batch, they are perfect for parties, housewarming gifts or setting out when guests drop by.
There’s nothing in this world quite like a dollop of lightly sweetened whipped cream. Whether you’re topping off a slice of pecan pie, finishing off a peach cobbler or adding it to a bowl of freshly picked raspberries…real, honest-to-goodness whipped cream is one of life’s true pleasures.
Simple though it may be, there are a few things you should know if you want to get your topping technique whipped into shape.
If you’re from the Midwest, you probably grew up eating corn on the cob weekly in the summertime. That’s one reason why, here in the Hiland Kitchen, we like to keep it near the top of our menu all summer long.
Sure, you can boil or grill ears of corn and they’ll turn out tasty. But to us, there’s nothing like the recipe below to help bring out the best in fresh sweet corn.
Here at Hiland Dairy, we like to think of every day as Earth Day! That’s because we are always working to find new ways to reduce our use of natural resources while we reuse and recycle as many materials as we can.
But, today is a good day to remember that we are all in this together. Our farmers and employees live in the same communities, use the same water sources and visit the same parks as you…so every act we take, no matter how small, can make a difference.
I have two daughters, the youngest of which has sensitivity to wheat. We’ve found that a regular dose of Hiland Dairy yogurt helps keep her system happy, so we’ve come up with an activity that’s great for her tummy and creativity.
Is there such a thing as too much Hiland Dairy milk? Well, if you and your spouse each bought a couple gallons of milk on the way home you might have too much to use before the ‘Sell By’ date. So what to do then? Sure, you can send some to the neighbors, but did you know you could also freeze it? Read on for the secret to freezing milk…
So you’ve got friends coming over for dinner. You’ve found a recipe online that looks amazing, but… it calls for buttermilk. You’ve got pots simmering on the stove and you can’t run out to the store to buy some, so what do you do?
This recipe is decadent, delicious and equally at home as a family breakfast or dessert. Be sure to stock up on Hiland Dairy Orange Juice to complement this dish on Valentine’s Day morning.
Look no further! We’ll show you how to make a fun, unique and inexpensive “Love Monster” Valentine’s Day Box using a milk jug and a few simple craft supplies.
