Tomorrow is National Picnic Day.
With the weather warming up and the birds chirping, there’s no better time to pack your picnic basket and spend the day at the park. Our family loves to go on picnics. Over the course of the years, I’ve turned an ordinary lunch into a creative outing with the family. Here are some of my tricks:
A sandwich is but a sandwich.
Give your sandwich a doughy makeover! Stuff Hiland Dairy Shredded Cheddar Cheese and chopped ham into store-bought pastry dough. Form kite-shaped pockets and bake until golden brown.
Have fun with your food.
Instead of packing plain celery sticks, I swipe peanut butter or cream cheese into the groove and add raisins to the top…they look like ants!
Don’t forget to pack the blindfolds!
I always pack a mystery item (like Hiland Dairy Lowfat Cherry Vanilla or Black Cherry Yogurt) and make my kids guess the flavor. This way, I know they’re getting the protein they need for a successful day at the park.
Always pack sunscreen, hand sanitizer and adhesive bandages…you can never be too prepared. Happy picnicking!
