February is American Heart Month
It’s a good time to focus on heart health and the things we can do to combat heart disease — the leading cause of death in the United States.
If you enjoy a tall, cool glass of milk every day or maybe indulge in a few splashes on your breakfast cereal, then you’re already engaging in a heart-healthy diet. In fact, the 2010 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee (DGAC) concluded that evidence indicates that the consumption of milk and milk products is associated with reduced risk of heart disease in adults.
In addition, the American Heart Association includes certain fat-free and low-fat dairy products as part of its heart-healthy diet and lifestyle recommendations. In short, dairy is good for you and your heart.
We already know that dairy products are a great source of protein, calcium and a host of other important vitamins and minerals. Now we know they’re also a part of a heart-healthy diet. So, there’s really no excuse not to indulge.
